Since its inception, the Laurels String Quartet has pursued the vision of combining the world of string chamber music with the popular music of today, ranging from indie rock, to jazz, to classical and more. In the process, they have become the go-to quartet for many of the most celebrated artists and groups in town and have had the pleasure of playing numerous shows at some of the most notable venues including: First Avenue Main Room, The Fitzgerald Theater, The State Theater, Cedar Cultural Center, Varsity Theater, Minnesota State Fair Grand Stand, Hopkins Center for the Arts, The Fine Line, Ice House, Southern Theater, and the Graves 601 Hotel. The quartet has done many in-studio sessions on 89.3 the current with various artists and has also appeared on The Daily Circuit on MPR with Kerri Miller.
The Laurels have had the pleasure of working with many local luminaries including Jeremy Messersmith, Semisonic, Motion City Soundtrack, P.O.S. (Doomtree), John Mark Nelson, John Munson (Trip Shakespeare), Chan Poling (Suburbs), The New Standards, Chris Koza (Rogue Valley), Adam Levy (Honeydogs), Dessa (Doomtree), Gary Louris (Jayhawks), Lucy Michelle, Chastity Brown, Alison Scott, and Kevin Bowe. They have also worked with national artists Dan Wilson (Grammy award winner, Semisonic, Dixie Chicks, Adele), Devotchka, Nico Muhly, Sam Amidon, Doveman, and Nadia Sirota. The quartet is made up of Josh Misner on first violin, Jesse Peterson on second violin, Erica Burton on viola. The quartet is saddened to see Dan Lawonn (cello) go, who is moving on to new projects in Madison, WI. The quartet is happy, however, to welcome Cory Grossman as their newest member on cello.
